Current information on the ISO 9001 revision
The ISO 9001, the internationally recognized standard for quality management systems, is currently undergoing revision. Originally, the publication of the new revision was planned for the end of 2025, but this process is now expected to be delayed until fall 2026. The first draft, known as Committee Draft 1 (CD1), was presented in April 2024. Due to unresolved structural issues and numerous comments, it was decided to create another draft, Committee Draft 2 (CD2), to ensure a high-quality revision.
The upcoming revision of ISO 9001 aims to harmonize the structure of the standard with other management system standards. Additionally, specific requirements in the appendix are expected to be clarified. Key topics such as ethics and integrity, vision, mission and values, quality culture, and dealing with opportunities and risks in quality management are likely to play a significant role. At the same time, ISO 9000, which regulates definitions and principles of quality management, is also being revised and will include new definitions.
The need for this revision arises from the increasing complexity and dynamics of the global economic and political environment, as well as the use of new technologies. These factors require adjustments in the application of quality management systems to maintain their relevance and effectiveness.
Companies should closely monitor the developments of the ISO 9001 revision to take timely measures for adapting their management systems. It is expected that after the revised standard is published, a three-year transition period will be granted to implement the new requirements.
Thus, ISO 9001 remains a key standard for quality management systems and, through the planned adjustments, will be aligned with current and future challenges.
